The Homes for the Holidays house tour is one of NENA’s longest running and most popular events. As the only neighborhood in Elgin with two separate historic districts, it’s no surprise that visitors from throughout the Fox River Valley and Northern Illinois regularly join us for this special celebration. Unlike many traditional “house walks”, Homes for the Holidays celebrates more than the physical house – it’s a celebration of the wide range of holiday traditions reflecting the cultural, ethnic and spiritual diversity of our neighbors. And it’s a look into the personal approach each family brings to decorating their home for the holidays. Last year alone, visitors were treated to such unique decorations as a reindeer corral, a Mardi Gras tree, a Mexican nativity set, Chinese artifacts and ornaments featuring themes ranging from sports teams to the Wizard of Oz.
