VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK

HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE

Elginites have served in the armed services since the city was founded. Over the years, many commemorative plaques and statues have been placed in various locations around town. Some of those have been relocated to here. Constructed in 2008, this memorial park is an attempt to recognize all veterans with one central monument in their honor.

Take note of the larger than life size replica of the Combat Infantry Badge. It is the relief sculpture of the long rifle. The badge, awarded by the U.S. Government to thousands of veterans. It was designed by Elgin sculptor, Trygve Rovelstad. You can see other examples of his work along this segment of the bike trail.
