SULPHUR SPRINGS

HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE

The park land was a gift to the city in 1892 from William Wing, but before it was known as Wing Park, it was sometimes called Sulphur Springs. The spring, which was located near here, was thought to have medicinal value which attracted people to drink and bathe in its waters. From 1907 to until 1920 the park also included a half mile oval for harness racing. Through the years the park has hosted many events such as automobile races, carnivals and summer encampment of the National Guard. Today, just like in times gone by, you can enjoy concerts and theatrical productions at the nearby band shell.
