LORDS PARK

HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE

Elgin's little piece of paradise is right here in Lords Park. The park's name is not a direct reference to the Divine Being but rather to George P. and Mary Lord who donated the original land needed to get the park started in 1892. The Lords were a religious couple and said that their many charitable gifts were an extension of their faith. So in an indirect fashion the park is a gift of God. Today, the park contains a zoo, a natural history museum, the pavilion, landscaped lagoons and plenty of strolling space.
