Join the Elgin Heritage Commission in celebrating Elgin's history!

Elgin’s plaque program has been a popular program since 1986 for it identifies and promotes awareness and appreciation of those buildings in Elgin which have historical and architectural value. Each year, property owners who have completed research on their home’s architecture and history are awarded plaques for their efforts.  For each selected home, the homeowner is presented with a plaque and certificate that states the date of construction and the original owner’s name.

In addition, all of the information collected including photographs and historic documents are then placed on the Heritage Commission’s Award Winning Historic Elgin website accessible to not only our residents but as well as visitors interested in learning more about what makes Elgin a preservation destination.
