569 FRANKLIN BOULEVARD

HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE

In 1883, Friedrich Honert and his wife, Friedarika, signed a mortgage for lot six in block six of the Grote and Waldron’s 3rd Addition to Kane County in Elgin for payments of $800. The home at the time had an address of 469 Franklin Boulevard until the last street and numbering change in 1894 when it became 569 Franklin. Friedrich was a laborer in Elgin, though the 1884-85 Elgin City Directory do not specify his specialties. Friedrich was born in 1843 and died in 1912. Friedarika Honert was born in 1845 and died in 1911.

It is unknown how long the Honert family stayed in the home or when it was sold.

ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE

569 Franklin Boulevard is an example of a simplistic Gable-front house. The Gable-Front family was extremely popular in the late 19th, early 20th centuries given its affordability for the working class and its adaptability within a narrow lot. Touches of many styles can usually be seen on these homes, generally characterized by multiple influences rather than one individual style type.
