HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE
49 N. Alfred was built in 1926 for Carrie Naker and Ettie Anderson for a cost of $3,800. As noted in Rebecca Hunter’s “Elgin, Illinois Sears House Research Project,” Carrie worked for the Elgin Steam Company as a laundress. Interestingly, Sears repossessed the house in 1936 and resold the home to Manning Meeks in 1937.
ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE
49 N. Alfred Avenue is a one-story hipped roof bungalow with a clipped gable roof dormer. It is a Sears, Roebuck and Company home - model Starlight.
