357 HAMILTON AVENUE
HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE
357 Hamilton Avenue was built by the Andresen Brothers in 1930 at a cost of $5,000 for Raymond and Loretta Higgins. Interestingly, this area is in the Edward J. O’Beirne subdivision which required that any houses built on these lots must cost at least $5,000.
Raymond was born in 1898 and was a mail carrier for the post office as well as a World War I veteran. He married Loretta White and had two children. Raymond past away in 1969 and Loretta in 1972. Their son, Raymond, was also a mail processing manager at the Post Office and continued to live at 357 Hamilton until 1994.
ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE
357 Hamilton Avenue was built in the Tudor Revival Style which was popular in the United States from 1890 until 1940. Tudor Revival features seen here include a steeply pitched roof, dominated by a prominent front facing gable with asymmetrical eave heights, grouped windows with multi-pane glazing, a front entry door a Tudor and masonry wall material with stone window sills. The wide shed dormers on the north and south elevations also are typical of this style.
