326 ORCHARD STREET
The Kimball brothers first sold lots 14 and 15 in block 3 of their Kimball’s Third Addition to Charles Volstorff of the Volstorff Meat Market family in 1880. In 1918, lot 15 only was sold to John Krabbe, a carpenter. The Elgin City Directory for 1925-26 has no listing for 326 Orchard Street; the 1927-28 edition lists John Krabbe at 326 Orchard.
Mr. Krabbe passed away in 1944 and his sister took over his estate who sold the house in 1945.
326 Orchard Street is an example of the Craftsman Style Bungalow. This home has several distinctive features that help characterize it as this particular style including its hipped roof and hipped façade dormer; an elevated partial-width porch with column; the use of the brick exterior; and the original windows that are grouped together in twos or threes.
