220 ELM STREET
Built in 1924 for Benjamin F. and Annie Higgins. Benjamin was born in 1873 to John T. and Sarah Kelly Higgins in Livingston County, Missouri. Benjamin moved to Chicago, Illinois and shortly thereafter, he married a Ms. Annie of Indiana. Annie and Benjamin moved to Elgin in the early 1920s and built this home. They had one daughter, Gwendolyn, and three sons, Harvey, Frank and Irving. Benjamin passed away in 1943 and Annie in 1948.
220 Elm Street is an excellent example of a Craftsman Style Bungalow. Typical of this style and found on this home is its wide eaves, low pitched, hipped roof, full width porch enclosed with removable windows, multi-light windows and hipped dormers found on three sides of the home.
